AETMIS - Agency Background
From CETS to AETMIS, 20 years of services to health decision-makers
2008 marks the 20th anniversary of the creation, in 1988, of the Conseil d’évaluation des technologies de la santé (CETS), to which AETMIS succeeded following an order issued by the Québec government on June 28, 2000. Its mission encompasses an expanded mandate that takes into consideration the evolution of clinical practices and service organization methods. The Agency is also charged with assessing assistive devices for the disabled persons, previously the responsibility of the Conseil consultatif sur les aides techniques (CCAT), since abolished.
The Agency is therefore carrying on the tradition of scientific rigour embraced by the CETS. Production continues to increase and after 20 years of existence, more than 110 reports and assessment notes have been generated. With its broadened mandate and in the context of constant pressure for better use of resources, it is called on to play a paramount role alongside decision-makers in the healthcare system.
