AETMIS - The Agency's Mission

The Agency was formed by order 855-2000 issued by the Québec government on June 28, 2000, replacing the Conseil d’évaluation des technologies. It was given the following mission:

  • To support the Minister of Health and Social Services and the decision-making authorities of the Québec healthcare system, through the evaluation of health technologies and the different intervention methods in healthcare, through the evaluation of their efficiency, safety costs and the ratio between costs and efficiency, as well as the evaluation of their ethical, social and economic implications.

AETMIS’s original mission has been expanded. With the adoption of Order 444-209 and the amendments to Order 855-2000, the Agency is now responsible for developing multidisciplinary and cross-sectoral guidelines for all health and social services system stakeholders. AETMIS has also been mandated to develop tools for evaluating the clinical and organizational performance of the health and social services system, ensure that an evaluation is conducted, and publish its findings.
